Ronaldo’s influence helps Scottish singer to No1 in Saudi Arabia’s music charts

Scottish singer Amy Macdonald might have Cristiano Ronaldo to thank as her smash hit 'This is the Life' has soared back up the charts, 16 years after its initial release in 2007.

Ronaldo has hit a rich vein of form in the Saudi Pro League, and his goals keep going viral on TikTok. And Macdonald's hit 'This is the Life' is often played over the top of the strikes.

Speaking on Restless Natives podcast, she said: "I had started noticing I was getting a lot of comments in Arabic on social media. I was like 'it looks lovely but I've got no idea what it says' and there was just more and more of it.

"Somebody looked into it and there seems to be a lot of videos on social media using 'This Is the Life' that are like Ronaldo playing football in Saudi Arabia. I said to one of my mates about it and they sent me a photoshop of Jordan Henderson wearing an Amy Macdonald tee-shirt."

Macdonald's hit has now over 380million streams on Spotify, and it's No.1 in the Saudi charts.

Macdonald is no stranger to football, and she is married to former Rangers defender Richard Foster.

The pair tied the knot in 2018, and the popstar announced the marriage as she shared a snap with Foster sharing a kiss. Alongside the post, Amy said: "What happens in Vegas…"

Meanwhile, Ronaldo is back to his best in Saudi, and he has scored 14 goals in 13 games this season.
