Romelu Lukaku has opened up about his plans for the first time this summer following a wave of transfer rumours. Lukaku fired Inter Milan to the Serie A title last season and has been attracting the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The Belgian striker netted 30 goals in 44 appearances for Inter across all competitions and is reportedly on the wish list of Chelsea, among others.

Despite winning a first Scudetto in 11 years, Inter are enduring a period of uncertainty following Antonio Conte’s decision to step down as manager.

The Italian club are also experiencing financial difficulties away from the pitch, with Chinese owners Suining looking for outside investment.

Inter recorded a loss of £87million in 2020 and the coronavirus pandemic has hit their bottom line hard, prompting reports they may have to sell some of their most prized assets in order to balance the books.

Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, Achraf Hakimi and Alessandro Bastoni have all attracted interest from elsewhere and Conte’s exit could make departures more likely.

However, Lukaku says that he has already been in contact with Conte’s successor, Simone Inzaghi, who gave him assurances about next season.

“Yes, I am staying,” he told VTN’s Deviltime.

“I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.”

He added: “There’s also the challenge of doing it again [winning the league]. I feel good at Inter.”

According to Eurosport, Roman Abramovich is personally driving the push to bring Lukaku back to Chelsea.

The club’s Russian owner reportedly views the 28-year-old as the perfect signing to spearhead the Blues’ push for the Premier League title next season.

Manchester City are also keen on Lukaku, with Pep Guardiola’s side needing a striker this summer to replace Sergio Aguero, who is joining Barcelona next month.

Lukaku is seen as a more affordable alternative to Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

The striker, who will play a central role for Belgium at this summer’s European Championships, still has three years left on his Inter contract he signed upon arrival in August 2019.

Lukaku signed a five-year deal with the club after joining for a fee reported to be a club record £73m (€80m).

He was previously a Chelsea player between 2011 and 2014, but only made 15 appearances, spending time on loan with West Bromwich Albion and Everton.
