A handshake caused the Sunday evening touchline fracas at the Emirates between Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker with Arsenal set-piece coach Nicholas Jover.
Following the intense clash, which saw Gabriel Martinelli's late deflected strike win the game for the Gunners 1-0, Jover, who used to work for Man City, offered Walker a handshake as he was about to head down the tunnel at the Emirates. However, the England international was left incensed by the offer from Jover, instead confronting him on the touchline.
Haaland then followed Walker into the confrontation, which eventually resulted in players and staff from both teams getting involved. Jover could be seen being held back by the injured Buyako Saka, whilst also wagging a finger in the direction of Walker and Haaland.

It appears the reason for Walker's outrage stemmed from the fact Jover refused to shake hands with the 33-year-old right-back twice last season. At the end of the two Premier League games last term, which Man City won, Jover stood with his hands behind his back, a clear sign that he would not shake hands with any of his former colleagues.
And of course, his hypocrisy in offering Walker a handshake following the Sunday evening win could almost be seen as gloating, especially given his previous behaviour. Both games last term saw Man City win comfortably.

Pep Guardiola's side defeated the Gunners 3-1 in February, and 4-1 in April. The second of those wins played a pivotal part in helping Man City reeling in Arsenal, who topped the Premier League table for the majority of the season last term.
In the end, they finished five points clear of Arsenal, who dropped scores of points during the title run in. When asked about the incident during his post match press conference, Guardiola said: "I know what happened, but I don't want to say anything."

And the international break may have come at the perfect time for Guardiola and co, who are currently experiencing a poor run of form lately. Following their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup at the end of September, Man City lost to Wolves 2-1 in the Premier League.
They then managed to dispatch RB Leipzig in the Champions League before returning to domestic action on Sunday where they lost to Arsenal. They return to action in the Premier League on October 21, where they will take on Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad.
