Rangers star Borna Barisic is reportedly attracting attention from three top Premier League sides ahead of the summer transfer window. Barisic has been a key component for Steven Gerrard’s title-winning side this season, starting all but three games and providing seven assists.

He also helped Rangers reach the Europa League last-16 stage with three goals over the two legs against Royal Antwerp.

Gerrard clearly knew how important Barisic was going to be for this season, stating last summer that the full-back was not for sale under any circumstance.

“We’re not surprised if there is any interest in Borna,” Gerrard said in August 2020.

“Of course we’re not because he has been a consistent performer for us for some time now and he has started the season so brightly again.

“But he has signed a long-term deal here, everyone loves him, the fans like him and he was in the running for Player of the Year.

He added: “They are difficult to get and we own one.

“He’s staying here. He’s not for sale.

“If someone did come, they would have to bring an awful lot of money with them.”

DON’T MISS

But that interest has only increased, according to Give Me Sport, with three Premier League clubs said to be considering an approach this summer.

The report doesn’t name the three sides, but does claim that they’re all inside the top 10 in the Premier League table.

Leeds were one of the clubs chasing Barisic last summer before Gerrard issued a hands-off warning.

West Ham were also said to be considering a move in the recent January transfer window as competition to Aaron Cresswell.

Gerrard will undoubtedly be hoping to build on Rangers’ success next season to keep rivals Celtic at bay.

And former Rangers striker Kris Boyd wants to see the Ibrox board back Gerrard in the market to bolster the squad.

“The recruitment part once again will be crucial this summer,” Boyd told Sky Sports News.

“You don’t want to stand still, that’s exactly what Celtic did in the summer.

“For me you’ve got to bring in better players than what’s there, and that’s not me having a go at the guys who are there.”
