Raiola ‘to hold transfer talks’ with Man City over January deal for Haaland

Erling Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola is reportedly set ‘to hold transfer talks’ with Manchester City in January.

The Borussia Dortmund striker has established himself as one of the top strikers in world football after contributing a frightening 69 goals and 19 assists in 67 appearances.

He also boasts an exemplary record in the Champions League, accumulating an astonishing 21 goals and three assists in 17 Champions League appearances for RB Salzburg and Dortmund.

The imperious Norwegian has been impossible to ignore, and with a £64m release clause activating next summer, all of Europe’s top clubs will be operating the biggest charm offensive in their histories to coax him to their club.

And it appears Manchester City are hoping to get their noses in front of their rivals, in the race for his signature, as reports from The Times claim Haaland’s agent Raiola is set ‘to hold transfer talks’ with the Citizens.

Pep Guardiola’s side have plenty of advantages over clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Liverpool, in the race for Haaland.

His father, Alfe-Inge Haaland played for the Citizens between 2000 and 2003, which could inspire the 21-year-old to follow in his footsteps.

Haaland senior’s friendship with Puma’s Norwegian chief executive Bjorn Gulden could also be a huge influence, due to the companies’ sponsoring of Manchester City’s kits.

The German sports manufacturer have a deal with City until 2029, and it is believed Haaland will likely sign an endorsement contract with them, upon the expiration of his current deal with Nike.

While City are certainly in a strong position, United also have an ace over their vials as Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed the striker during his managerial stint at Molde.

Club chief executive Hans-Joachim Watske recently said on television “It has not been decided that he (Haaland) leaves next summer.”

It is also claimed Dortmund are set to offer him a new £12.7m per year salary to try and keep him at the Signal Iduna Park.

The Haaland transfer saga is still in the very early stages, so be prepared for plenty more twists and turns.
