Raheem Sterling says Manchester City are showing the hallmark of champions by going from entertainers to grinders.

The England star’s winner extended City’s winning run to 18 matches and ended up being enough to sink Arsenal.

And Sterling reckons grinding out results like this is exactly what you need to do to win championships.

He said: “We struggled at times, but we kept our composure and ground out a result.

“We had a difficult start of the season – something we’re not used to. Credit to the team, we’ve started to dig results out.

“You have to do that when it really matters, that’s what makes a title-winning team.”

Sterling headed the runaway Premier League leaders in front early on but they failed to add more goals.

He said: “Whenever I score a headed goal it’s an extra buzz. I was just happy to score. It's not about size, it’s about timing!”

City boss Pep Guardiola said: “The record is going to break one day. We are going to lose one day.

“I am surprised when everyone is suffering that we were consistent for the last few months. That’s why I am more than pleased to win just 1-0.

“Winning these games 1-0 is what we need to do. People look at our run of wins and think it’s so easy. I didn’t expect it.”
