Mo Salah was ‘like Messi in Chelsea training’ but Mourinho still not convinced

Mohamed Salah was 'like Lionel Messi in Chelsea training', according to former Blues team mate Felipe Luis.

The pair played together for one season at Stamford Bridge before both players were moved on by Jose Mourinho.

Luis joined Atletico Madrid just 12 months after having signed for Chelsea in a deal worth £15.8million.

While Salah moved on loan to Fiorentina and then Roma in a bid to resurrect his faltering career in west London.

But in the time the two players did spend together on the training pitch, Luiz was left suitably impressed, even if Mourinho wasn't.

He told The Guardian : “I suffered Salah in training, pfff. When he went Fiorentina, I said: ‘Why are you going, Momo? This is Chelsea.’

"And he said: ‘I need to play.’ I thought: ‘This kid’s good.’ He never went for money or to win more; he went to show he could play.

"In training he was like Messi. Really, like Messi. Ask anyone.”

Salah made his Chelsea debut in the club's 3-0 win over Newcastle in February 2014, but failed to hold down a place in the squad.

In total, he made just 19 appearances for the Blues in two-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge.

The Egyptian forward eventually joined Roma on a permanent deal where he made his name prior to his move to Liverpool.

Since making the switch to Anfield in 2017, Salah has become one of the most coveted players in world football.

He has scored 118 goals in 187 appearances for the Reds and finished fifth in the 2019 Ballon d'Or.
