Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has remained coy about his plans in the transfer market.
The Gunners got off to a perfect start by beating Fulham 3-0 in their Premier League opener, with new boys Willian and Gabriel putting in impressive debut performances.
That could give club chiefs the push to continue their summer business, and they have been linked to both Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar while Emiliano Martinez, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Matteo Guendouzi remain potential departures.
Arteta has now been asked what his plans are for the final three weeks of the window, but he took his chance to state that some of the things he has read have been wide of the mark.
He said: “I don’t know. I am not going to discuss here what the things that happened internally.
“But a lot of the things they have been writing, I can tell you they are not true.”
Free agent Willian set up two of Arsenal’s goals at Craven Cottage on Saturday but it was Gabriel who stole the show with a commanding defensive performance and a goal for himself.
The Brazilian pair have subsequently been praised by their manager, particularly the young defender who hadn’t played a competitive match since the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season was brought to an end.
He said: "Obviously for Willian. He knows the league, the country and is very settled here so I knew his performance would settle straight away.
"For Gabriel it was a big challenge for him today to come in. He hadn't played any football in the last six months and he had a terrific performance."
Before adding: "Ideally I wanted to give him some time because he only trained for a few days with the team and physically hasn't played a competitive match for six months, so obviously it was a risk of injury as well.
"But credit to him, he performed well, physically he felt really good and he was very happy to play."

One player that has forced his way back into the plans of Arteta after nearing the exit door is Mohamed Elneny, who was delighted to start in the victory at the weekend.
He said: "I feel really happy and I have to thank Mikel Arteta for giving me a chance to play.
"I know it's not easy to be on loan and come back to Arsenal and I'm really happy because I made everyone feel like I was not away from the team.
“This makes me really happy and I have to thank Mikel Arteta because he helped me a lot to feel like this.”
