Kylian Mbappe has snubbed his idol Cristiano Ronaldo after labelling Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi "the best player in the world".

The French forward netted twice in PSG's thumping 4-1 win over Club Brugge on Tuesday night's to become the youngest player in Champions League history to score 30 goals in the competition.

The 22-year-old hotshot also assisted fellow attacker Messi for the first of his double as the recently crowned seven-time Ballon D'Or winner continued to break records of his own.

Messi's brace in the Brugge battering saw him score against his 38th different opponent in the Champions League – a joint record for striking against the most clubs in the competition's illustrious history, alongside none other than Ronaldo.

Mbappe's admiration for the iconic Manchester United star has been well-documented over the years after photos emerged of him as child with Ronaldo posters plastered around his bedroom wall.

However, following Messi's latest exploits, the French superstar appears to have made a U-turn on who he deems as football's greatest player.

"It's easy to play with Lionel Messi," Mbappe declared after PSG's Champions League triumph over Brugge.

Will Kylian Mbappe win the Ballon d'Or during his career? Let us know in the comments section below.

"He's the best player in the world. He won the Ballon d'Or a few days ago. He scored two goals today, he is happy, and I hope he will help us in the future."

The revelation will come as a shock to football fans given the Frenchman's devotion to Ronaldo, which includes the Mbappe taking to social media to label the Portuguese icon his "idol" accompanied by crown and goat emojis following the pair's encounter while playing for their countries in the Nations League last year.

Mbappe has previously stated: "I had a lot of idols, there was Cristiano who I loved a lot, and during this period we have had Cristiano and Messi.

"I have the chance to play with Neymar who I admired a lot when I was young. They are the players that I admired a lot."

The World Cup winner also named Ronaldo's bicycle kick in the 2018 Champions League quarter-final tie for Real Madrid against Juventus as the best goal he has ever seen.

Mbappe added: "The goal of Ronaldo against Gigi (Buffon.) I had the chance to play with Gigi and he talked to me about it and the feeling he had when it happened during this legendary goal, so I would say this one."
