Marcos Alonso wants to sign a new deal at Chelsea having been brought in from the cold by new manager Thomas Tuchel.

The defender found himself frozen out by Frank Lampard and struggled to nail down a place in the starting line-up.

But since Lampard’s sacking and Tuchel’s arrival, the Spaniard has been recalled, coinciding with the team’s strong recent form.

According to The Sun, Alonso had been considering a move to another Premier League side or one in Serie A, but is now chasing a one-year extension on his £150,000-a-week deal at Stamford Bridge.

The 30-year-old only managed to make three appearances for Lampard this season before the club legend was ruthlessly dismissed by Roman Abramovich.

He was axed after the 3-3 draw against West Brom back in September and it appeared that Lampard had lost trust in him.

The defender has played six times in a month already since Tuchel took charge of the club

The situation has rapidly improved for the former Real Madrid man having already made six appearances under Tuchel in a month.

He has started the last three matches for the club, including Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Southampton.

Chelsea reportedly tried to find a buyer for Alonso both during the summer and January transfer windows but his high wages deterred sides from making a move, particularly with the coronavirus pandemic having shaped finances.

The left-back has been able to show what he can do and wants a one-year contract extension
