Marcelo Bielsa ‘rings’ Man City star Ian Poveda to discuss Leeds transfer

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has personally telephoned Manchester City youngster Ian Poveda in a bid to persuade the youngster about a move Elland Road.

The 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer and hasn't done enough to convince Pep Guardiola he has a future at the Etihad.

Poveda is expected to be released from his contract at the end of the season but is already attracting interest this month.

Italian outfit Torino are keen to bring the Colombian before the January window closes.

But Tuttosport have reported that Bielsa has personally called Poveda to try and tempt him to Leeds instead.

The player is said to favour a move to Turin but may have been tempted by the prospect of potentially playing Premier League football next term.

City may not want to keep the player on their books beyond the summer but they are reportedly trying to find a 'friendly destination' for Poveda to play his football next.

Guardiola is a huge fan of Bielsa, which may help Leeds secure a deal.

Leeds have been actively looking for attacking outlets since sending Eddie Nketiah was recalled by Arsenal earlier this month.

The Gunners loanee struggled for game time in Yorkshire due to Patrick Bamford's solid form.

But Bielsa doesn't seem too happy about Arsenal's decision to take the player back.

“About these new players in the team, I have done all the explanations, given all the information, the unfair treatment of Arsenal and Nketiah, the three of them to Leeds," he told reporters.

“When they choose Leeds, Leeds took an engagement to the Arsenal decision and Nketiah’s decision.

"They thought a lot about it. They choose us putting away other options they have. We did everything we said we were going to do.”

Jack Clarke was another player to be recalled after returning to Tottenham following an unsuccessful spell at his former club.
