England defender Kieran Trippier has reportedly decided that he wants to remain at Atletico Madrid, in a fresh blow to Manchester United’s plans for the summer transfer window.
United planned on signing the former Manchester City man to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka next season.
Wan-Bissaka was forced to play 54 times in all competitions last term due to a lack of depth at right-back.
Trippier had an excellent first season in Spain with Diego Simeone’s side.
He arrived from Tottenham for £20million last summer hoping to rejuvenate his career after stalling at Spurs.

And Tripper won the first league title of his career, helping Atletico to fend off pressure from Real Madrid and Barcelona to win La Liga for the first time since 2014.
He played 28 times in the Spanish top-flight and provided six assists.
An impressive campaign has prompted links with a return to England, but Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim that Trippier would rather remain at Atletico next season. The Spanish side are also unwilling to sell.
It will come as a blow to United, who planned on making Trippier one of several signings as they attempt to bridge the gap between themselves and rivals City.

The Red Devils finished runners-up to Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League but the top-flight champions held a comfortable 12-point lead.
United boss Solskjaer is preparing a busy summer, with at least three major signings set to be made.
The Norwegian reportedly also wants a centre-back partner for Harry Maguire, a central midfielder and a forward.
Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho have been strongly linked with moves to Old Trafford.
Solskjaer has urged the United hierarchy to back him in the transfer window, which opens for English clubs on June 9.
“Of course, we’re planning as we normally do, that’s an ongoing process,” he said after the 2-1 win over Wolves on the final day of the Premier League season.
“We’re looking at the squad and I hope we’re going to strengthen with two or three players [who] we definitely need to challenge higher up in the table. We’re still too far behind to think it’s just going to come by itself.
“We’ve had a few players on loan that might come back in. There is interest in a few others going out. You want to come out of the transfer window strengthened. It’s difficult to say, I can’t see too many outgoings.
“We’re not where we aimed to be. But we’ve got ambitions to move up one place.
“But there’s been steady improvement. Third last season, second this season, some more points. We’ve done really well away from home.
“We know we had a difficult start to the season, losing three of the first six games and loads of them were home games, which put pressure on the team.
“The players have been very, very good.”
