Thanks to a deadline-day scramble, Manchester United have finally addressed long-time depth issues in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri all joined Donny van de Beek as new recruits at Old Trafford, while the club also agreed a deal to sign exciting Atalanta winger Amad Diallo in January.
However, much of the conversation around United’s transfer business centred on the club’s failure to land top target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
That, combined with an alarming 6-1 defeat at home by Tottenham Hotspur, has deepened the sense of malaise around the Theatre of Dreams.
Should things continue in the same manner, there may be several more comings and goings come January.
With that in mind, here are three noteworthy transfer stories concerning the Red Devils.
Pogba admits Real Madrid ‘dream’
United midfielder Paul Pogba has admitted that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid.
The Frenchman has regularly been linked with a big-money move to the Spanish capital over the years and was unable to conceal his desire to turn out for Los Blancos when asked about a potential move to the Bernabeu.
"All football players would love to play for Real Madrid,” he said during a press conference with the France national team on Thursday.
“It is a dream for me, why not one day? I am in Manchester and I love my club. I am playing in Manchester, I'm having fun and I want to do everything to put the club where it deserves.
"I will give everything to the max, like my team-mates."
Pogba’s United contract expires in 2021 and the 27-year-old claimed there have been no discussions over an extension.
"No-one has told me anything. I have not spoken to [United executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward. We haven't spoken about a new deal.
"At the moment, I am in Manchester and I am concentrating about getting back to my best form.
"I think there will be a moment when the club will come and talk to me and maybe offer me something, or not."
Haaland and Sancho remain United’s top targets
Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho are still Solskjaer’s top two targets despite United’s failure to sign either player in the last two transfer windows, according to ESPN .
United missed out on Haaland in January as the Norwegian striker opted for Borussia Dortmund before their unsuccessful pursuit of Sancho, who stayed at Dortmund after the Premier League side refused to meet their Bundesliga counterpart’s £108million asking price.
Despite this, Solskjaer views both players as the ideal candidates for his long-term plans.
Haaland has been a sensation with Dortmund, scoring 21 times in 23 games, while Sancho is expected to attract interest from Europe’s top clubs next summer if he continues his excellent form in Germany.
Cavani held talks with Real and Juve before joining United
Edinson Cavani held talks with Real Madrid and Juventus before deciding to join United on deadline day, as per ESPN.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan also attracted interest from Benfica after becoming a free agent following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
Juve reportedly offered the former Napoli star a two-year deal with an €8m salary only for Cavani to turn it down with the striker said to have asked for a three-year contract worth €9m a year.
Cavani eventually joined United on a one-year deal with an option for a second.
He has begun training in isolation at Carrington in line with the UK’s coronavirus protocols after arriving from Paris with his last competitive appearance coming back in March.
Cavani scored 200 goals in 301 games for PSG, helping them win six Ligue 1 titles during his time in the French capital.
