Man Utd think they can get huge discount on La Liga ace with £86m release clause

Manchester United reportedly believe they can get a huge discount on Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra. Newcastle are also said to be keen on signing the 20-year-old who is yet to make 20 senior appearances in his career.

United spent around £190million on new signings in the summer transfer window. Two of those were in midfield, with Mason Mount the first through the door for a fee of up to £60m and Sofyan Amrabat the last arrival on an initial £8.5m loan.

Erik ten Hag is yet to see the new recruits make the necessary improvements on the pitch. United have lost three of their opening six Premier League matches, although have beaten Burnley and Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in their last two outings to restore some confidence.

Ten Hag will understandably already be looking at where else he could improve in future transfer markets. With Casemiro turning 32 in February, and having received some criticism for his performances this season, midfield may again be an area he looks at.

Spanish outlet Marca claims United are closely monitoring Valencia ace Guerra. The Spanish youngster only made his professional first-team debut in April.

Valencia moved quickly to tie him down to a new long-term contract in May to keep him at Mestalla until 2027. They inserted a release clause into the contract worth around £86m (€100m).

However, Marca claims United and Newcastle both believe they can sign Guerra for a price considerably lower than the clause amount. It is reported that interested clubs view Valencia as ‘vulnerable’ due to their financial need to sell players to balance their accounts.

Whether United attempt to prise Guerra away from Valencia in January or allow him to have a full season in La Liga remains to be seen. Guerra has started five of Valencia’s seven league matches so far this term.

He has shown he has an eye for goal from midfield, scoring three times and registering one assist, including the 88th-minute winner on the opening day against Sevilla. Overall he has four goals in his 17 senior appearances for Valencia.

Guerra is a Spain under-21 international and previously played for the Spain under-19 side. Both United and Newcastle will be hoping to be able to offer potential new signings knockout Champions League football if they were to be busy in January.

United lost their opening group stage match away to Bayern Munich. Newcastle, meanwhile, drew away to AC Milan in their group of death.
