Man Utd team news vs Luton as Marcus Rashford decision made after costly red

Erik ten Hag’s position at Man Utd is being questioned by some

Manchester United are searching for a fourth win in five Premier League games when Luton Town visit Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. Erik ten Hag has some important selection decisions to make after overseeing a ninth defeat in 17 outings against FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

Express Sport runs through how United are likely to line up as they look to shake off their Champions League woes and head into the November international break on a positive note.

Goalkeeper – Onana

Andre Onana conceded four goals in midweek, but he has been one of United’s better players in recent weeks and will retain his starting spot.

Defence – Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Dalot

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot should continue at full-back as Ten Hag searches for the ‘routines’ he never forgets to repeat.

Harry Maguire has started United’s last seven games, and his position should be safe, though he has lost recent partner Jonny Evans through injury.

Ten Hag opted for Raphael Varane over Victor Lindelof to replace Evans early in the defeat at Parken, despite a reported rift between the two over his omission from the Manchester derby.

But Varane was poor after coming on and could feasibly make way for Lindelof against Luton, especially given the latter’s superior ball-playing ability in a game where United will expect to dominate possession.

Midfield – McTominay, Eriksen, Fernandes

United played their best football of the season in the opening half-hour against Copenhagen, cruising into a 2-0 lead before Marcus Rashford’s harsh red card.

Therefore, it would be no surprise that Ten Hag keeps his front six the same for Luton’s visit this weekend hoping they can replicate their electric start.

Scott McTominay has appeared to earn his faith with important goals this term and is expected to be favoured over Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount again.

Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes should have the technical traits to unlock the visitors’ likely low block.

Attack – Rashford, Garnacho, Hojlund

Many fans have clamoured for Alejandro Garnacho to start games amid United’s right-wing woes, with Jadon Sancho nor Antony making a positive impression this season.

He looked lively against Copenhagen on the left, with Rashford moving over to the right. He cost United with his red card in Denmark but remains a crucial part of Ten Hag’s thinking.

United were dangerous on the break and would’ve scored more goals had they not gone down to 10 men. Rashford has just one goal this term but Ten Hag insists he will come good.

Hojlund is still awaiting his first Premier League goal – having scored all five of his United goals in four Champions League games – and it could come against Luton if Ten Hag keeps his front three the same.
