Man Utd star backed to force through Leeds transfer in January after Ed Woodard decision

Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams needs to leave Old Trafford to join Leeds in the January transfer window, according to one Premier League agent. Williams enjoyed a breakout campaign last season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regularly called upon him as his first-choice left-back.

The 20-year-old started 25 games in all competitions and was the preferred choice in the Europa League.

He impressed in parts with his tenacious defending along with his versatility to play across the back-line and further forward.

But Williams is yet to feature in the Premier League this season and hasn’t been included in any of the matchday squad.

Luke Shaw has so far been Solskjaer’s first choice at left-back and Williams is only going to drop down the pecking order with the arrival of Alex Telles.

United finally agreed a deal with Porto on deadline day to sign Telles and he is expected to be Solskjaer’s first-choice after the international break.

For Williams though, he faces a few months battling for a place in Solskjaer’s immediate plans for the season.

He does have the ability to provide cover for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back but Timothy Fosu-Mensah has so far been the back-up option.

A number of young Premier League stars struggling for game time at some of the clubs competing at the top of the table failed to secure loan moves before the transfer window closed on Monday.

But one Premier League agent believes Williams should look at joining Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds in January to find regular minutes.

“Younger lads that didn’t go on loan will force a move,” they told The Athletic.

“The Carabao Cup is out of the window for the next two months as the rounds have already been played.

“Fikayo Tomori and Billy Gilmour should go in January.

“Brandon Williams doesn’t want to be No 3 left-back at United.

“He would be absolutely mental to not go somewhere like Leeds or Southampton. Or a top-half Championship club.”

Stuart Dallas has been Bielsa’s first-choice at left-back though while young Leif Davis has also been given a chance.

Southampton could be a viable option though as they reportedly registered their interest in a potential loan on deadline day.
