Man Utd drew up Jadon Sancho plan that backfired as Erik ten Hag set to axe star

Jadon Sancho told not to use first team facilities

Manchester United reportedly drew up a plan to publish any private apology from Jadon Sancho following his public feud with manager Erik ten Hag. But the Red Devils’ plot backfired after the winger refused to back down despite being banished from the first team. And Ten Hag is now set to axe the 23-year-old.

United shelled out a whopping £73million to prise Sancho away from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, with the former Manchester City youngster tipped to take the Premier League by storm. But the England international has struggled to make an impact in an underperforming United team and has returned just 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances for the north west giants.

The ace was named on the bench for United’s first three Premier League matches this season but was then dropped from the matchday squad for his side’s trip to Arsenal at the start of September.

Ten Hag told reporters Sancho’s absence was down to his performances in training. But the player instantly took to social media to defend himself and hit out at the Dutchman. He hasn’t played for the club since and is currently training on his own.

United have demanded an apology from the star, which would have been made public by the club, according to the Daily Mail, and would have been viewed as a victory for Ten Hag.

Sancho is not even allowed to eat with the senior squad but remains close to a number of his team-mates and was spotted with Aaron Wan-Bissaka in New York in September. His days at Old Trafford now appear to be numbered, with recent reports suggesting the ace is officially on the United transfer list.

Ten Hag has taken a hardline approach since taking over as Red Devils manager last year. The 53-year-old made the decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo for a clash with Chelsea last autumn after the Portugal forward refused to go on as a substitute in the previous clash with Tottenham. And Ronaldo ended up quitting the club to move to Saudi Arabia.

There is little chance of Ten Hag yielding in his position over Sancho as he attempts to lay down the law at Old Trafford. But some figures within the United squad believe the manager’s handling of certain individuals has impacted team togetherness in a negative way. And results on the pitch could well back up that theory. United have lost five of their opening 10 Premier League matches this campaign and have also been defeated in two of their first three Champions League encounters.
