Man Utd are making huge changes ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe coming into the club | Football Digest
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes believes Everton fans would have enjoyed Alejandro Garnacho’s sensational opener in Sunday’s 3-0 win at Goodison Park. The Red Devils compounded Everton’s recent Premier League woes by cruising to victory in a hostile afternoon on Merseyside.
United will have expected a tough test against Everton in the first match since the Premier League deducted the latter 10 points for a breach of financial rules.
Erik ten Hag’s absence from the technical area as he served a one-game suspension in the stands added to the pressure.
Everton fans showcased a siege mentality before kick-off in protest against their punishment, orchestrating a chorus of intense boos and raising thousands of cards accusing the Premier League of corruption.
But Garnacho silenced the rowdy home faithful after just three minutes by producing a spellbinding bicycle kick mirroring Wayne Rooney’s iconic 2011 strike against Manchester City.
After full-time, Fernandes admitted that he knew the gravity-defying goal would have angered Everton supporters but cheekily claimed the home fans would’ve ‘enjoyed’ it.

“I give him [Garnacho] a good nod for the goal. I have big expectations for him,” Fernandes smiled as he told Sky Sports alongside Garnacho.
“He has a great future ahead of him, and we expect a lot from him. I am always going to be behind him, asking for more, but yes, it’s an amazing goal.
“A goal like that has to silence the crowd. Everton fans will not be happy about it, but they would’ve enjoyed seeing it, and players like him can do this. I am very happy to have him on my side.”
Fernandes displayed his captain credentials by handing a second-half penalty to out-of-confidence Marcus Rashford, who smashed United’s second past Jordan Pickford from the spot.

Fernandes said: “I think he needed a goal. I was sure he was going to score. He is one of the penalty-takers, too, so I thought it was the moment for him to have and score.
“I am really happy he scored a boost of confidence for him. He could take on any player [after that] and a threat to Everton again.”
Anthony Martial continued his rich vein of goalscoring form against Everton to net the third, profiting from Fernandes’ pinpoint through ball before looping a composed finish over Pickford.
Fernandes and Garnacho are almost guaranteed to keep their place in Ten Hag’s side in Wednesday’s must-win Champions League trip to Galatasaray.
