Luis Diaz’s message to his kidnapped dad after late Liverpool goal vs Luton

Luis Diaz had a message for his kidnapped father after scoring a stoppage-time equaliser for Liverpool in their match with Luton on Sunday evening. Diaz had missed Liverpool’s last two matches after the shocking news that both his parents had been kidnapped.

But the Colombian was back in Liverpool’s matchday squad for the clash with Luton with Jurgen Klopp confirming before the match there were “positive” signs that the player’s father will soon be released. The Liverpool boss also stated that Diaz was ready to come on if need be and the German will be glad about that.

Liverpool looked on course to suffer a humiliating 1-0 defeat before Diaz popped up at the back post to score a dramatic equaliser. His celebrations were muted, but Diaz wheeled away while revealing a three-word message on a shirt under his Liverpool top.

The message read “Libertad Para Papa” which translates to “Freedom for Papa”.

The Reds were staring at the possibility of an embarrassing defeat to the Premier League minnows. Darwin Nunez and Liverpool’s other attackers had been wasteful in front of goal and they were made to pay late in the match.

Luton countered from a Liverpool corner, with the Reds appealing for a handball in the opponent’s box. Ross Barkley then set Issa Kabore free down the right wing with Tahith Chong bursting through the centre of the pitch.

Kabore managed to time his pass perfectly as Chong slotted the ball past Alisson to give Luton an unlikely lead. But Diaz’s late leveller for Liverpool meant both teams left with a share of the spoils.

That result could prove costly for Liverpool as they missed out on a chance to move above Tottenham in the table. For Luton, the draw pushes them out of the relegation zone on six points after 11 games.

They have still only one won game this season, but they’ve been hard to beat at Kenilworth Road.
