Liverpool beat Leeds United 4-3 in a dramatic game at Anfield on Saturday and Stephen Warnock believes the match emphasised the club’s need to sign Thiago Alcantara. Newly-promoted Leeds equalised three times before Mohamed Salah’s late penalty secured his hat-trick and three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side. But Warnock believes the victory masks over issues for the Reds that can be resolved with the signing of Thiago.
Thiago, 29, has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool from Bayern Munich.
However, the £27million asking price for a player of that age has been the stumbling block so far.
Leeds recorded slightly more possession than champions Liverpool in their first game back in the Premier League for 16 years.
But Warnock says having Thiago in midfield would have made a big difference for the hosts.

“I think what today highlighted was that they do need additions,” Warnock told Stadium Astro.
“Thiago I think would be a huge plus for them in a game like today where the possession stats are down.

“He can dictate the tempo of the play, he almost drops into that quarter-back position, he just dictates it, slows the game down, takes the press out of Leeds or takes the tempo out of Leeds’ player.
“He comes with bags of experience and I do think he is someone that if Liverpool do want to progress and do want to keep at the highest level of not only English football but European football, they need to go out and they need to make that acquisition to add to that midfield.

“I suppose you’d say it’s a different type of player that they don’t have in the ranks as yet.”
Meanwhile, former Leeds striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says Liverpool have not strengthened enough in this window to win the title for a second successive campaign.
Left-back Kostas Tsimikas is the only player Klopp has signed to date.
“I think it will be a lot harder for them this year, especially that they haven’t brought anybody in yet, or they have only brought a left-back in,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.
“I do think that they need to freshen something up just to change some kind of dynamics and give somebody a harder time, especially those three up front.
“So I think it will be a lot closer this year, I don’t see them winning it but they will be there or thereabouts.
“If you beat them I think you will be champions.”
