Liverpool legend John Barnes believes Jurgen Klopp’s side should target Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham and Brighton and Hove Albion midfield general Yves Bissouma. The Reds have been linked with moves for both midfielders in recent transfer windows, after Georginio Wignaldum departed the club for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
While they are yet to fill the void departed by the Dutchman, they have managed to cope excellently with the likes of Harvey Elliott and Thiago Alcantara impressing on the left-hand side of their midfield.
However, Klopp’s side have still been linked with a wide variety of midfielders in the Premier League and Europe.
Various reports have claimed Bellingham, who has repeatedly been compared with legendary Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, is the Merseysiders’ top transfer target.
But while Barnes also believes the England international is a cracking prospect, he has also earmarked Bissouma as a player who can fulfil Liverpool’s demands.

“Jude Bellingham would be a great acquisition for Liverpool, but I can’t see him coming in January, if at all,” Barnes said to BonusCodeBets.
“Yves Bissouma, at Brighton, also fits the profile for one of Liverpool’s three midfielders.
“Those are two players that Liverpool should be looking at, but I can’t see either of them are going to happen in January, they’re ones for the future.”
Bellingham’s astounding progress under Marco Rose has extended into this season.

The 19-year-old has contributed an excellent three goals and five assists in 16 Bundesliga appearances, despite mainly starring as a deep lying midfielder.
However, further reports from German publication Bild claim the former Birmingham City manager would not be allowed to leave the Signal Iduna Park for anything less than £101million.
This hefty price tag on Bellingham’s head has prompted Liverpool, and the likes of Manchester United, to consider cheaper alternatives such as Bissouma who could also fill the void.
Bissouma has once again impressed at the heart of Brighton’s central midfield, dictating play at the centre of the pitch, while also carrying out his defensive duties with great intelligence and precision.

The 25-year-old playmaker has also entered the final 18 months of his contract at Graham Potter’s side, meaning this summer would be Brighton’s last chance to cash in on his brilliance.
And Barnes believes Liverpool could be given a free run at signing either of the midfield duo, as he does not believe Manchester City would consider a swoop for the two stars.
“If we look at Manchester City, they will want a completely different type of player; someone who’s comfortable on the ball and who has a different profile,” Barnes added.
“But for Liverpool, they want hard working midfielders who have a good work rate, high energy, a willingness to get up and down the pitch, and don’t dribble too much.
“Bellingham and Bissouma are two players that would suit Liverpool whereas other clubs might look at other options.”
