Liverpool transfer chief Michael Edwards faces another big transfer window in the next few weeks with one player attracting plenty of attention. The summer transfer window may have only closed little over a month ago, but clubs are already planning for January with Liverpool in particular facing some tough decisions.
The main priority right now is how Jurgen Klopp chooses to cope with the injury crisis in defence.
Joe Gomez picked up a knee injury while on international duty with England last week and underwent surgery.
Liverpool later confirmed that Gomez is expected to miss most of the season, with Virgil van Dijk also unlikely to return until next year.
Joel Matip and Fabinho are now the only senior centre-back options at Anfield with both players only recently recovering from injury troubles themselves.

Despite the growing injury concerns at Anfield, reports have suggested that Liverpool currently have no plans to bring anyone else in.
But while incomings are currently not on the agenda at Liverpool, there could be a few outgoings.
The acquisition of Thiago Alcantara in the summer bolstered Klopp’s options in midfield even further with Klopp now having eight midfielders to choose from when everyone is fit.
However, Georginio Wijnaldum looks increasingly likely to leave Liverpool by the end of the season having not signed an extension.

And his departure could come as early as January with two clubs registering an interest in signing the 30-year-old.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Inter Milan have made it clear they’re willing to battle Barcelona for Wijnaldum.
Inter’s chief executive Giuseppe Marotta is said to requested information on Liverpool’s stance regarding a January move.
But the report goes on to say that Inter will likely need to sell before they can go after Wijnaldum.
Christian Eriksen, Radja Nainggolan and Matias Vecino are all said to be available to leave the San Siro.
Barcelona were heavily linked with Wijnaldum in the summer with Ronald Koeman keen to link back up with the Holland international.
No deal materialised, but they’re expected to be in the running for his signature should he be made available in the New Year.
