Liverpool officials have reportedly been left ‘baffled’ by speculation suggesting the Reds will target Brazilian starlet Andre Trindade. Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the defensive midfielder ahead of the January transfer window but it seems that some reports might be wide of the mark.
Andre’s performances for Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense have caught the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs. Wide-ranging reports suggested that Liverpool will rival Premier League and European clubs in attempting to secure his signature.
Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with the 22-year-old, who made his Brazil debut in June. It has been claimed that Liverpool would attempt to trump their top-flight rivals by completing a move in the January window.
However, writing for Liverpool website This Is Anfield, journalist David Lynch reports that some club officials have been left bemused by that speculation. Lynch insists that the Merseyside outfit are not planning to make an offer for Andre.

The report claims that Liverpool did indeed attempt to sign the player in the summer. However, they were given no indication that a deal could be possible.
Andre decided to remain with Fluminense and that decision has subsequently paid off. He played a key role in the club’s Copa Libertadores triumph earlier in November, winning the highly coveted South American equivalent of the Champions League.
Liverpool moved on to other targets after missing out on Andre. As part of a major overhaul of Klopp’s midfield, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch were both signed – two players who can play in the No 6 role.

The Reds were rocked by the departure of Fabinho to Saudi Arabia in the summer. It made the need for a regeneration of the Liverpool midfield even more important, with the Brazilian having played a vital role at the base of a three-pronged midfield during the most successful period of Klopp’s reign.
Questions have been raised over whether the 30-year-old Endo is the long-term solution in the position. Meanwhile, Gravenberch had his best games for former clubs Ajax and Bayern Munich slightly higher up the pitch.
Liverpool could therefore still target another defensive midfielder, even if that player is not Andre. Klopp will want to continue the positive momentum that has been gained as a result of a successful summer window. That could involve more transfers in January.
