Liverpool fans debate sacrificing FA Cup this year to save their depleted squad

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to debate the idea of sacrificing their place in the FA Cup this season to focus on other competitions.

The Reds are currently in a defensive crisis with Vigil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold all sidelined with injury.

The latter should be back in action shortly after the international break, but it remains to be seen how long Jurgen Klopp will be without his first choice centre-back pairing.

So with jam-packed schedules Premier League and Champions League their main focus until next May, some Reds fans think they should give up their place in the historic FA Cup.

With Liverpool already out of the Carabao Cup, that would allow them to focus on arguably the two most important competitions.

Which was the case for several Kopites, who joked that they had basically been doing that anyway since their 2006 success.

One wrote: “The fa cup has become nothing more than a money spinner for the fa and a curse for big sides who play in europe regularly.”

“We've been removing ourselves from the FA cup for years. So its no news,” a second added.

Klopp doesn’t really care about the FA Cup. All he cares about is the league and champions league,” a third argued. “Anything else is meaningless and a bonus if we win.”

However, others argued that it was the perfect opportunity to give some of the younger players experience on the big stage, just as they were forced to at times last season due to other commitments.

One suggested: “Play the kids and take it round by round. (If we get that lucky).”

“Why remove? Just play kids,” a second quizzed.

A third stated: “Surely use it for decent experience for the under 23's, proper competition for them to get excited about and good experience on the way.”
