Jurgen Klopp has labelled his team ‘Liverpool 2.0’ and says we have only seen a glimpse of how good his new-look side can be this season after a summer rebuild that saw four midfielders join and many experienced heads depart Anfield.

Liverpool have 13 points from 15 in the Premier League ahead of tomorrow’s clash with West Ham, and started their Europa League campaign with a win over LASK in Linz on Thursday night.

Though performances in first halves especially have not been polished – they have won from behind four times – Klopp says he is enjoying his fresh team. ‘I was really excited about the rebuild, the new way, the new energy,’ said the German.

‘We decided last year we had to change a lot. We are not stable yet, there are so many things not (right)… but we are really good already. Aston Villa was a really, really, really good game, but then two weeks later (against Wolves) we played a really, really, really bad first half.

‘Nobody wants to see that but it’s part of the deal. When you want to change things you can’t expect everything to click from the first moment. This was the new Liverpool, Liverpool 2.0! But this was only one glimpse of what we can be, we don’t know where we can end up.’

Asked if this team are similar to the self-named ‘mentality monsters’ that won the Champions League and Premier League, the Liverpool boss added: ‘When I said that phrase at that time, it was not that I planned that way.

‘I just remember watching a game and thinking, “Oh my God, how did they come back?”. Mentality? That is something we will create. What we have now is a mood. This is a spirit we have created because the boys really like playing with each other. It is a close group. It is early.’
