Jose Mourinho takes swipe at Arsenal over social media jibe

Jose Mourinho has aimed a dig at Arsenal by claiming they "don't have much to celebrate" after they appeared to mock their north London rivals on social media.

Tottenham fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United on Thursday, in a result which all but ends their pursuit of a Champions League qualification spot.

Arsenal, in contrast, have won their last four games in all competitions, one of which was a dramatic 2-1 win against the Blades in the FA Cup quarter-final.

The Gunners posted highlights of that game on their official Facebook account over weekend along with the caption: "It's not easy beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane", seemingly in reference to Spurs' loss.

But speaking ahead of Spurs' game against Everton on Monday night Mourinho did not appear to see the funny side of the post.

"You only enjoy the problems of others when you are also in trouble," the Portuguese manager said.

"I think if they were top of the league or fighting for top four in a really good moment they wouldn't enjoy the problems of others. They don't have much to celebrate, they have to get every opportunity to do it. They are in a very similar situation to us in the table.

"To be the champion of north London means nothing for me because I think you have to be much bigger than that and have much more ambitions than that."

Spurs are in desperate need of a victory against the Toffees on Monday, with Mourinho's side having won just one of their last six Premier League games.

They now sit in tenth position in the table, 12 points off fourth placed Chelsea, and they face a big week in which they also play Bournemouth on Thursday followed by the first ever north London derby in their new stadium against Arsenal on Sunday.
