Jermaine Jenas has come under fire after posting a foul-mouthed tweet about the referee during Tottenham's clash with Arsenal on Sunday.
The former Spurs midfielder appeared to take issue with the decision to award Arsenal a penalty in the second half and vented his anger on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote: "Complete s***house of a referee! They're all ruining the our [sic] game."
He was immediately labelled a hypocrite when fans were reminded of the fact he recently fronted a campaign calling on players and supporters at all levels of the game to stop abusing referees. He was also slammed by RefSupportUK, a charity dedicated to independent training, support and development of referees across the country.

Responding to Jenas' post, the charity replied: "This is a disgraceful tweet and you should be ashamed. Your tweet encourages on line abuse of referees and considering your role on TV your employers need to give their head a wobble. Remember Anthony Taylor and his family were attacked at an airport because of antics such as yours."
Many supporters agreed, with one writing: "Yeah this is poor of Jermaine. Makes you look like a right hypocrite." A second said: "Loool proves Jenas is a complete w***er," while a third added: "Football tribalism in one tweet."

The incident Jenas was complaining about was Rob Jones' decision to award Arsenal a penalty after Cristian Romero handled in the box. The call wasn't super controversial, but a lengthy VAR check suggested it could have gone either way.
Bukayo Saka converted the resulting spot-kick to put the Gunners 2-1 ahead after Son Heung-min's first-half equaliser had levelled the score following a Romero own goal, but fortunately for Tottenham – and Jenas – Son equalised again just a few seconds later to earn the visitors a point.
