‘This is unacceptable’ – Alexia Putellas after Luis Rubiales refuses to resign
Spain star Jenni Hermoso has reportedly made a formal complaint to the prosecutor’s office regarding allegedly being kissed non-consensually being the nation’s football president Luis Rubiales. Amid calls for the chief to resign, which he has protested, the CF Pachuca striker has accused him of sexual assault during the Women’s World Cup final celebrations.
Spanish outlet Cadena SER have claimed that Hermoso has stepped up legal efforts by making an official complaint to the prosecutor’s office on Tuesday, as controversy has overshadowed the 33-year-old’s success with her team-mates, beating England in the final of the Women’s World Cup.
Rubiales has insisted that the kiss was consensual while Hermoso has denied that claim and suggested otherwise, as Rubiales has been provisionally suspended from his post by FIFA.
The complaint means that Rubiales could face criminal charges if found guilty, after Spanish prosecutors opened a preliminary investigation into whether the incident amounts to a crime of sexual assault on August 29.

After Hermoso’s complaint that was made in person, the public ministry will present an official complaint soon against Rubiales. Shortly after hearing the news, Spain’s Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Jenni Hermoso, you are not alone. There are millions of us with you.”
The formal complaint has come shortly after Spain’s head coach Jorge Vilda was removed from his position, having been a close ally and supporter of Rubiales.

“The damage caused to Spanish football, to Spanish sport, to Spanish society and the values of football and sport as a whole have been enormous.
