Inter Miami is already looking ahead to next season after being eliminated from MLS Cup Playoff contention in Lionel Messi’s first campaign.
But the club is reportedly looking at getting him a new striking partner – someone that Messi has plenty of history with already.
After being linked with a move to the club since Messi’s arrival, Inter Miami is considering making a run at Uruguay striker Luis Suarez.
Miami manager Tata Martino told reporters that the team is already planning scenarios on what they may look like with the Uruguayan up top.
‘Within our analysis of the upcoming season, and the needs we may have, we have an analysis with Luis and an analysis without Luis,’ Martino said at a press conference.
Gremio striker Luis Suarez has been linked again with a move to MLS club Inter Miami
If that move is made, it would re-unite Lionel Messi with another former Barcelona teammate
Miami’s Tata Martino says the club is already preparing for the possibility of getting the striker
‘So when the moment arrives to make Suarez’s situation with respect to Inter Miami official, we’ll be prepared to go in the corresponding direction.’
Suarez has been linked with a move to MLS ever since Messi’s arrival in Miami – with many hoping to see a reunion of the two former Barcelona teammates.
But Suarez was signed up with Brazilian club Gremio at the time. However, the 36-year-old plans to leave the club when Brazil’s club season ends in December.
That departure is a year ahead of schedule, after Suarez inked a two-year contract with the Brazilian giants last year. He scored 18 goals in 42 appearances for Gremio.
A move for Suarez would see Messi link up with a third Barcelona teammate – after Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba joined the Argentina captain in Florida this summer.
Suarez and Messi won four La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey crowns, and a Champions League title during their partnership at Barca.
