Ibrahima Konate ‘passes Liverpool medical checks’ despite rough injury record

Ibrahima Konate has already passed some early medical checks with Liverpool ahead of his potential summer transfer from RB Leipzig – despite his worrying record of injuries.

Since the start of the 19/20 campaign, the 21-year-old has missed 393 days through five separate injuries, amounting to 45 fixtures up to the start of February this year.

The first three layoffs were all due to torn muscle fibres, with an initial 225 days out followed up by 96 days out of action ahead of his most recent return to action.

The Athletic first reported the news of Liverpool’s interest, adding that his buy-out clause of around £34m could allow them to skip to negotiations with RB Leipzig.

Furthermore, RMC Sport have reported that Konate has already passed some medical tests with the reigning Premier League champions ahead of the summer window.

That comes after Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche said: “He has a long contract with us, he knows what we mean to him and what he means to us.

“This year he is developing well and he is an extremely important player with a lot of potential. We want to help him develop further. I don't see a reason for him to leave us."

Liverpool currently sit seventh in the Premier League table and five points behind the top four having set-up a Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid by beating Leipzig.

When asked about the rumours, Konate said: “I woke up, I saw my phone ringing all over the place.

“I just wanted to tell them, 'Hey, I played yesterday, I'm tired, leave me alone.'
