Antonio Conte’s astonishing rant at the club and his players has left several members of the first-team squad hoping that the Italian is sacked during the international break.
The Italian launched a stunning tirade at his players and the board following Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Southampton.
Conte accused his players of ‘not wanting to play under pressure’ and said it was ‘the story’ of Tottenham not to compete for big trophies.
‘They don’t play for something important. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress,’ said Conte.
‘It is easy this way. Tottenham’s story is this. For 20 years there is the owner but they never won something but why?
‘The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stays here?
‘I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench.
‘Until now I try to hide the situation but not now because, I repeat, I don’t want to see what I have seen today because this is unacceptable and also unacceptable for the fans.’
While Conte received sympathy in some quarters for calling out the club, his decision to blast the players hasn’t gone done well with the squad.
The Italian’s decision to go public with his criticism has been widely questioned by the Spurs players, who don’t understand how anyone stands to benefit.
The Sun say there’s now a ‘hope’ among a good number of players that Conte is sacked during the international break.
There’s a two-week break before Spurs face Everton and it’s a perfect opportunity for the club to part ways with Conte, should they choose to do so.
