Antonio Conte became a ‘very attractive prospect’ to Tottenham chief Daniel Levy very quickly as the Italian is linked with a north London move.
The 51-year-old made a surprise exit from Inter Milan, three weeks after their first Serie A title in 11 years due to a conflict over funds available for transfers.
Coming a month-and-a-half after Jose Mourinho was shown the door by Spurs, it has seen the Premier League side reportedly make a £17m offer to him, with the manager reportedly keen on a move.
And the process saw the club’s make a quick change of heart following negotiations with another boss.
According to football.London, Spurs were originally ‘pushing hard’ for a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino – despite the Argentine arriving at PSG in January.
Having been sacked in November 2019, the 49-year-old would prove difficult to pry away having signed an 18-month deal at the Parc des Princes.
But the quick release of Conte from the San Siro at the end of May as a free agent made him a ‘very attractive prospect’ to Levy.

One question raised, though, is what level of funds the Italian could expect to receive for transfers over the summer – an issue which could lead to ‘frustration’ for the manager in north London.
An appointment at Spurs for the 51-year-old would mark a return to Premier League football after three years away, having led rivals Chelsea for two years.
Arriving from the Italian national team in 2016, Conte guided them to the top-flight title in his first season before clinching the FA Cup the next.
‘Clashes’ with several first-team players at Stamford Bridge, though, saw him depart under a cloud, taking a year out before heading to Inter.
The Italian may be able to secure funds for transfers through the exit of captain Harry Kane, with the Spurs forward expressing his desire to leave the club last month.
