Bruno Guimaraes has reached a verbal agreement with Newcastle over a new long-term contract.
Mail Sport can confirm that the deal, which is yet to be signed, includes a release clause in excess of £100million. Newcastle will feel that protects them against an offer below their valuation of the midfielder.
The Brazil international’s current contract runs until the summer of 2026 but, after making a significant impact since joining from Lyon for £36m in January 2022, he wanted to be rewarded with improved terms. His new agreement includes a pay rise and expires in 2028.
Guimaraes has played 63 times for the Magpies and has scored 10 goals, providing six assists.
He was key in helping the club qualify for the Champions League and supporters will be relieved that his contract situation is approaching a conclusion. He had said there was ‘doubt’ in the summer.
