Earthquake strikes central Morocco
BBC host Gary Lineker has praised Cristiano Ronaldo after the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star reportedly made his hotel available to provide shelter for those affected by the earthquake in Morocco. The death toll has eclipsed 2,000 with many more injured after the powerful earthquake near the country’s capital Marrakech.
After the seismic shock measured at 6.8 magnitude on the Richter scale devastated those in Morocco, reports out of Spain claimed that Ronaldo has turned his hotel in the city into a refuge site. The 38-year-old, who now plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, launched his fifth hotel last year with the Pestana CR7 Marrakech with rooms that cost between £158 and £372 a night.
Ronaldo has charitably offered those affected by the natural disaster the opportunity to find shelter at the four-star hotel, which also has an outdoor pool, fitness centre, restaurant and terrace.
Lineker has been among those impressed with Ronaldo’s efforts, noticing the story on social media site X (formerly known as Twitter) before writing: “Well played @Cristiano” accompanied by two clapping emojis.

A Spanish national Irene Seixas confirmed to TV channel 24h that they had found refuge at Ronaldo’s hotel. “The hotels (are) the same. We had to come to the new area of Marrakech, where there are more luxury hotels, so to speak,” Seixas said.
“Now we have managed to get Cristiano Ronaldo’s hotel, which is on the outskirts, to give us a room. We are waiting. We have slept all night on the street and at seven in the morning they told us that yes, we could approach. We are in a lobby (with) a lot of people of different nationalities, waiting to see if we can get a room, but we have all slept on the street.”

This is not the first time that Ronaldo has made such a generous act to help those in need, having donated £5million to the relief effort after the 2015 earthquake in Nepal which killed over 8,000 people.
Earlier this year he sent care items to victims of earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, having paid for tents, food packages, pillows, blankets, beds, baby food, milk and medical supplies while also meeting a young Syrian boy who dreamed of speaking to his footballing idol.
Nabil Saeed, a 10-year-old child, lost his father in the disaster that took over 50,000 lives before being captured on social media talking about Ronaldo. The legendary striker then invited him to Saudi Arabia to meet him and watch Al Nassr play, before sharing a touching moment together.
