Fletcher said Morrison was “taking the p***” out of him in Man Utd training

Darren Fletcher thought Ravel Morrison was mocking him when he joined in with Manchester United first-team training as a teenager under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Scot had a fine career with the Red Devils and won five Premier League titles between 2007 and 2013, but he was left feeling embarrassed by his young colleague.

Rio Ferdinand spoke to Morrison on his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE this week, asking the Jamaica international why he believes he didn’t make it at United.

The former England defender then recounted a time that Morrison joined in with the senior side for a session, and how that made first-team regular Fletcher feel.

Ferdinand said: “I came in for training one time, and you trained with us when you were about 15 or 16, tell me if you remember this yeah?

“Darren Fletcher was sitting next to me and he was shaking his head, I said: ‘Fletch man what’s wrong?’

“And he said: ‘The the kid is taking the p*** out me man, he’s taking the p*** out of me Rio.’

“I said: ‘What do you mean?’ and he said: ‘he’s just looking at me in my eyes when he’s running with the ball and then popping it off and running round me, I don’t know what he’s doing, I can’t believe it.’

“You were that good, this is a Scotland international playing for Manchester United feeling he’s getting the mick taking out of him by this young kid.

“And you didn’t have the confidence to think you could get in that team, are you mad?”

Ravel said in response: “I think that was adrenaline you know, excitement.”
