Photos have been shared online showing Luis Manuel Diaz’s released after he was kidnapped in Colombia for 12 days. The father of Liverpool star Luis Diaz was freed by his captors after being flown out of the jungle by a helicopter on Thursday afternoon.

Manuel Diaz was kidnapped along with his wife, Cilenis Marulanda, on October 28. Cilenis was released the next day but the father remained missing. Liverpool’s Diaz, along with numerous Colombian official organisations, pleaded for Manuel to be released but he remain at large.

The Colombia government announced that they believed that the National Liberation Army – commonly known by its acronym ELN – was responsible for the kidnapping and conversations began over releasing Manuel Diaz.

After 12 days being held by the group, Diaz was helicoptered out of the jungle where he was held hostage and returned to normality. He was met by a Catholic Church representative and a significant medical team who promptly checked whether Manuel Diaz was healthy and safe.
