FIFA 21 Winter Refresh details, start date, Icon Moments and Ratings Refresh

The FUT 21 Winter Refresh promo could be dropping very soon, with the Future Stars promo ending on Friday, so what can we expect?

EA SPORTS have already confirmed that the FIFA 21 Future Stars promo will end on Friday February 19, and considering the Future Stars promo was launched directly after the TOTY promo, there's no reason why the Winter Refresh promo couldn't follow straight after Future Stars.

Winter Refresh is one of the most content-heavy promos of the entire FUT season. The popular FUT promo often features new versions of Icons (Icon Moments), themed promo squads, upgraded ratings in a Ratings Refresh, new players League SBC players, new players added, SBCs, Objectives and more.

The Winter Refresh promo is a big opportunity for FUT players to upgrade their teams with hundreds of new players, upgraded players, a promo team, SBCs and objectives.

So, when is the FUT 21 Winter Refresh promo likely to begin? And, what can we expect to see for the Winter Refresh promo this year?

Here is all you need to know about what to expect in FUT 21 Winter Refresh.

FIFA 21 Winter Refresh start date prediction

Winter Refresh was launched as a FUT promo in FIFA 19, replacing Ratings Refresh. In FUT 19, the promo launched on Friday February 15 2019 and in FUT 20, the promo launched on Friday February 14 2020.

So, despite FUT players being treated to two promos back-to-back in TOTY and then Future Stars, it looks like EA SPORTS could launch the promo straight after Future Stars.

The FIFA 21 Ultimate Team Winter Refresh promo is likely to start on Friday February 19 2021 at 6pm GMT, and is likely to end on February 26 2021 at 5.59pm GMT.

So, what sort of content can FUT fans expect to see in FUT 21 Winter Refresh?

FUT 21 ICON Moments

In FUT 20 Winter Refresh, all 89 Icons received a brand new Icon Moments item that celebrated a special moment in their career which propelled them to the top of the footballing world.

The Icons Moment item represented the highest-rated version of an Icon in FUT 20 with brand new ratings upgrades inspired by their Icon moment.

So it was already highly likely that the 100 Icons included in FUT 21 would receive Icon Moments cards as part of Winter Refresh, but the recent Title Update 10 pretty much confirmed it.

As part of the Title Update 10 for PC, which was released on Tuesday February 16, FIFA fans noticed that EA had uploaded all 100 Icon Moments dynamic images, which seems to confirm their inclusion in Winter Refresh.

The FUT 21 Winter Refresh Team

The Winter Refresh promo team was introduced in FIFA 19, with high-profile transfers from the January transfer window given special Winter Refresh player items that were heavily upgraded.

Each Winter Refresh team player received uniquely tailored permanent upgrades designed to help improve your FUT club by filling either a position gap, aiding team building, adding depth, accessibility or new options within their league or nation in FUT.

In FUT 20, players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Xherdan Shaqiri, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Angel Correa and Juan Bernat were all included in the promo squad.

The FUT 21 Winter Refresh team will be likely be in packs from Friday February 19 2021 at 6pm GMT until February 26 2021 at 5.59pm GMT.

FUT 21 League SBC Update

It's likely every FUT 21 League SBC will be updated with the addition of a new player to the Player Pick reward granted for completing the group SBC, to match what has happened previously in FUT 20 and FUT 19.

FUT 21 League Objectives Player Update

As has happened previously, it's likely that the FUT 21 Winter Refresh promo will see every League Objective Player updated with a new upgraded version to work towards. This will be the final League Objective Player Upgrade the player will receive during FUT 21.

FUT 21 Top 50 Most Improved Player Upgrades

In FUT 20, EA SPORTS produced a list of the Top 50 Most Improved players in FUT, with these players having their ratings permanently updated to reflect their form in the first half of the season. It's very likely this will be replicated for FUT 21, with another 50 players upgraded based on their form in the 2020/21 season so far.

In FUT 20, players like Daniel James, Jamie Vardy, Adama Traore, Jack Grealish, Federico Valverde, Erling Haaland and James Maddison were all upgraded.

If this does happen, new base player items found in packs will have updated ratings, but certain existing in-form items will have their ratings automatically updated. And, they remain in packs until the end of the game, replacing the day 1 cards.

Winter Refresh Upgrade Criteria

  • Only players who are receiving a +3 OVR upgrade from their current base item are eligible to receive a player upgrade.

In-form Winter Refresh Upgrade Criteria

  • If an upgraded player’s new OVR rating and/or face stats do not equal or surpass his existing in-form’s rating, his IFs will not get an upgrade.
  • If an upgraded player’s new OVR rating and/or face stats equal or surpass his existing first in-form’s rating, his IFs will get an upgrade:
  • Future Stars Objectives Players will not be upgraded.

New FUT Player Additions

To match what happened in FUT 20, it's likely that around 100 players will be added to FUT 21 over the course of Winter Refresh with some transferring back from leagues or clubs not available in FIFA, and some making their first appearance in the game.

In FUT 20, players like Brandon Williams, George Hirst and Ansu Fati were all added for the first time in this update.
