Bruno Fernandes has been hailed as the secret behind Manchester United team-mate Marcus Rashford ’s success this season.
Rashford has scored seven Premier League goals so far this campaign, with the England striker netting the winner for United against Wolves on Tuesday.
Providing the assist for that strike was Fernandes, who has set up the second-most goals in the top flight this season.
And with Rashford firing in front of goal, former England striker Dean Ashton has highlighted Fernandes’ influence as one of the key reasons behind his young team-mate's form.
“Marcus Rashford is suddenly flourishing because he knows, as a forward, that the minute Bruno gets the ball he can make the run,” Ashton told Talksport.
“You know the ball is going to come, it is going to have the right weight on it, he’s going to be a step ahead of the defender because of the quality and the vision Bruno has got.”
Fernandes was a revelation for United after moving to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, becoming a key member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The Portuguese midfielder has continued his fine form this season, scoring 10 goals and creating the second-most big chances in the league.

And Ashton hailed Fernandes for how well he has settled into his role as one of United’s key men.
“He’s played 29 times in the Premier League for Manchester United, he has had 32 goal involvements – 18 goals and 14 assists,” he said.
“For some players, it takes time to adapt. I’ve heard players who have played for the likes of Manchester United saying what a huge step up it is.
“They didn’t realise just what came with playing for a club like Manchester United. Well he has walked in there as if they are lucky to have him!
“He’s gone in there with that sort of confidence as if to say, ‘you have been waiting for me and now I am going to show you why.’”
