Exiled Man Utd ace Mason Greenwood makes first appearance in 603 days for Getafe

Mason Greenwood has made his debut for Getafe off the bench against Osasuna exactly 603 days after his last appearance in competitive football. The exiled Manchester United striker was sent on loan to La Liga for the season in the summer transfer window.

Greenwood came on in the final 10 minutes at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez with the score 2-2. He had a deflected shot which led to a corner from which Nemanja Maksimovic made it 3-2 late on.

The one-cap England international had not previously played since 22 January 2022, when he turned out for Man United against West Ham in the Premier League. The Red Devils decided this summer that their academy graduate would not play for the club again following criminal allegations against him, which were dropped.

A statement read: “All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”
