Ex-Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has brutally dubbed Tottenham ‘Bottlejob FC’ after Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered another defeat despite going ahead in a match. Spurs led West Ham 1-0 in Thursday’s Premier League clash, only to lose 2-1.
It was the fifth consecutive game in which Spurs had scored the first goal but ultimately failed to win the game. The north Londoners have taken the lead against Chelsea, Wolves, Aston Villa, Manchester City and now West Ham – but have won just one point from those five fixtures.
A thrilling 3-3 draw against City is the only point injury-hit Spurs have earned during that run. Defeats against Chelsea, Wolves, Villa and West Ham have derailed the club’s early title challenge.
Five matches without a victory despite having led in each game is now a top-flight record. Many on the red side of north London have taken solace in Spurs’ plight over the last few weeks.
Outspoken former midfielder Ozil has dubbed Postecoglou’s side ‘Bottlejob FC’ in a hilarious social media takedown of Arsenal’s neighbours. The German posted on X: “Who else should be able to break that record? Bottle Job FC is back.”

Spurs were the early pace-setters in the Premier League, going unbeaten in their first nine matches. They did not appear to be scuppered by the summer exit of club icon Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, despite not signing a direct replacement.
But a recent injury crisis – which has wiped out key players including James Maddison and Micky van de Ven – has prompted a loss of confidence and form. Despite creating several huge chances, Spurs failed to kill off West Ham with a second goal.
Strikes by Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse condemned Spurs to a fifth-straight game without a win. Postecoglou rued his side’s attacking output.

Asked if Spurs were poor in the second half, the Australian said: “No, I don’t think so. I think it’s another game where we’ve dominated a game of football and haven’t turned our dominance into something more tangible and kept the opposition in the game.
“I thought we were really poor in both boxes tonight – both with our finishing and both goals were terrible to concede.
“We had some unbelievable chances – for us it’s another game, like the Villa game and other games earlier this year, and I said during the week our attacking play has a long way to go. In general we have a long way to go, and tonight was more evidence of that.”
