David Moyes won't be rushed into West Ham contract talks

David Moyes won’t be rushed into West Ham contract talks despite his current deal expiring next summer… as 60-year-old jokes he’s ‘young enough’ to commit for the long-term

David Moyes insists he is in no rush to open contract talks at West Ham.

The Hammers boss, 60, will be out of contract at the end of the season with no plans to discuss a new deal in the pipeline.

The West Ham hierarchy will want Moyes to stay, however, after he ended their 43-year trophy drought with success in the Europa Conference League in June, as well as overseeing a fine start to this season.

Asked if he could follow winger Jarrod Bowen’s lead in signing a seven-year contract, Moyes smiled: ‘I would expect so, I’m young enough.

‘I’m looking forward to working as long as I can, but I’ll also make a decision when I think it’s right to hang up my stopwatch and whistle.

‘At the moment I’m fine. I’m only focused on the team doing well, keeping us going and keeping the focus on that.

‘I’m sure there’ll be a time that comes when we’ll discuss it but I’m happy to go along just now and see what happens.’

Moyes faced calls to be axed at times last season with West Ham struggling in the Premier League.

The former Everton boss could have left on a high in the summer following that memorable night against Fiorentina in Prague, but insists he never considered walking away.

‘No, because I thought ‘my goodness, I’m just at the start’. I always believe the best is still to come,’ he added.

‘I had to believe that when we had difficult times, and I’m actually now saying ‘wow, look how good I’ve got the team at the moment’.

‘I genuinely think we are going to keep going along on that line. I always think the best part of me is I can build football clubs, and I think I can give them a level of stability.

‘I think West Ham probably needed that when I came in and there are signs of that on the field and off the field, and I hope we can continue to grow it.’
