Dan Burn says he is waiting to be woken from a dream after the former Newcastle season-ticket holder scored on his Champions League debut during the 4-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
The defender, who worked in Asda as a teenager, headed his hometown team’s second goal on a night that will go down in Geordie folklore.
Burn said: ‘I’ve had a very up and down career. I was released by Fulham at 25, so to be playing Champions League now, it’s like a dream, like I’m waiting for someone to wake me up. Ever since I have come here, the upward trajectory, it is almost like waiting for the bubble to burst.’
Eddie Howe’s side were magnificent from the off and rattled the French champions with their aggressive pressing.
‘We had to unsettle them and our crowd helped us do that,’ said the head coach. ‘It was an amazing evening, so many stories in the game itself, but first and foremost, I’m delighted for the supporters.

‘They are such a good team, we had to defend well and we did. I really liked our spirit and collective energy.
‘We created positive things in the first half from our pressing, all the things we do well when we are playing well. In the second half, we had to dig deep and try and get over the line.’
Miguel Almiron fired the opener before Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar netted in the second half. Geordie midfielder Longstaff said: ‘With me and Dan scoring on a night like this, it’s pretty surreal. We’re dreaming.’
