Mauricio Pochettino revealed he has received ‘bad news’ about Ben Chilwell’s hamstring injury from Chelsea’s doctors as he awaits confirmation of exactly how long his vice-captain will be sidelined.
Left-back Chilwell joined Chelsea’s injury list when he was forced off towards the end of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win against Brighton.
Initial assessments have taken place and Pochettino said: ‘I think it is bad news from what the doctor told me.
‘It is not a good thing. It looks a bad injury but we need to assess in the next few days and we will see the period he will be out.
‘The mechanism was bad, in the last minute of the game. We are really sad about the news about Ben.
Ben Chilwell will reportedly be unavailable for a month after he suffered an injury in Chelsea’s win over Brighton in the EFL Cup
Chilwell joins the likes of Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Reece James on the club’s injury list
‘It is difficult to know now it is less than two days and we need to assess in the next few days.’
In addition to Chilwell, the club also have several other top stars on their injury list including Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and captain Reece James.
However, Pochettino will be buoyed by the news that Carney Chukwuemeka has returned to full training with the first team, more than a month after being sidelined after picking up a knee injury in the club’s defeat to West Ham.
