Chelsea are reportedly set to launch another offer for Declan Rice in the January transfer window – but they will first have to cash in on two senior players.
The Blues were eyeing up a move for Rice over the summer, but West Ham’s rumoured £80million price tag proved far too steep following their £250million spending spree.
Frank Lampard is understood to be a huge admirer of the 21-year-old, who has already earned 11 caps for England.
And according to Football Insider, Chelsea are planning to approach West Ham again at the turn of the year over a potential deal for Rice.
The west London club are ready to follow up on their hefty summer outlay in January and give Lampard the best chance possible of mounting a serious Premier League title challenge.
However, it is believed they will have to complete two big-money sales in order to fund a winter bid for Rice.
They are prepared to listen to offers for Jorginho, Marcos Alonso and Antonio Rudiger – the latter of whom was linked with a move to West Ham last summer.
Rudiger has fallen down the pecking order under Lampard this season, with Kurt Zouma his preferred defensive partner for new recruit Thiago Silva.
The Germany centre-back is also competing with Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori for the coveted spot alongside Silva, meaning it would make sense for one of them to be moved on in January.
And should their pursuit of Rice prove successful, Chelsea would have another central defender in their ranks for the remainder of the campaign.
