Chelsea fans in tears as team news for Brighton game as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz start

Frank Lampard has handed both Timo Werner and Kai Havertz their club debuts for the game against Brighton and it’s left some supporters quite emotional. Chelsea have overhauled their squad this summer with a number of new signings.

But both Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech are unavailable through injury while Thiago Silva is yet to meet up with his new team-mates after being given an extended break due to his Champions League commitments.

Christian Pulisic was also an injury concern having been one of the Premier League’s standout players in last season’s restart.

However, all eyes were on Lampard’s starting line-up for their opening game against Brighton to see whether he would select both Havertz and Werner.

The German duo have arrived at Stamford Bridge too much fanfare having established themselves as two of Europe’s most promising young stars.

And the Chelsea clearly had no hesitation in throwing them straight in to face Brighton, with Havertz seemingly playing a more advanced role.

Werner has taken the position through the middle with both Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud on the bench.

Havertz looks as though he will be deployed out wide with Mason Mount on the other flank or possibly Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

No matter where the two new debutant play though, Chelsea fans are clearly happy at seeing them both in action straight away.
