Mbappe trains with PSG ahead of Newcastle clash
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has already called for a solution to Kylian Mbappe’s Paris Saint-Germain transfer dilemma, with the player’s contract set to expire at the end of the season. The Blues have been linked with a move for the blockbuster star and will be able to begin pre-contract talks with him from January 1 if he doesn’t pen fresh terms with his current employers.
According to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea and Liverpool will battle to secure the services of Mbappe this winter. The Premier League duo are ready to offer the 24-year-old extremely important contracts, with the player currently keeping his options open.
Pochettino managed Mbappe for 18 months during his time in charge of PSG between January 2021 and July 2022. And after being quizzed in the summer about the prospect of linking up with the France international at Stamford Bridge, the Argentine said: “I think in our past we were at Paris Saint-Germain and with Kylian and think I need to be conscious that I cannot talk.
“Everything you talk is too much noise. It is a situation that is very delicate and one they need to fix in Paris with Kylian. For our side I have nothing to say. We are working on our reality, our reality is different. From my side, nothing to say, only to support.

“I hope they find a solution for both sides. It is a club that I love, because I was a player, a captain and coach. With Kylian we create a very good relationship, I hope they can find the best solution for both sides.”
Mbappe and PSG were at loggerheads earlier this year after the player told his employers he had no intentions of extending his stay with the club beyond next summer. PSG then tried to sell Mbappe to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal in a world record £295million deal, but the player refused to enter into talks over a move to the Middle East.

Mbappe was banned from his team’s pre-season tour of Asia and was also left out of their Ligue 1 opener against Lorient, with PSG Nasser Al-Khelaifi president saying: “Our position is very clear. If Kylian Mbappe wants to stay – we want him to stay – he needs to sign a new contract. We cannot let the best player in the world right now leave for free. That is impossible.”
But the Frenchman was reinstated for PSG’s second game against Toulouse and went on to score seven goals in his first four appearances of the campaign. The ace also found the back of the net in his side’s Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund last month but hasn’t scored in his last four club appearances.
