Chelsea and Liverpool enter race to sign £86m Man Utd target

Chelsea and Liverpool are in the race with Manchester United to sign Jadon Sancho this summer, according to reports in Germany.

Sancho was United’s top target last summer but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were unable to reach an agreement with Dortmund, who were demanding in excess of £100 million for the England international.

Dortmund are again willing to sell Sancho this summer, however, Bild claim that the Bundesliga club have now set a €100m (£86.7m) asking price.

The report also claims that United face increased competition for Sancho as both Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in a deal at the end of the season.

Speaking at the weekend, Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has revealed that the club have a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ with Sancho which allows him to leave this summer.

‘We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions,’ Zorc told ARD.

‘He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling [Haaland].’

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his United players that they should expect new signings to immediately challenge for a first-team place.

‘We are always looking for improvement, always looking at every department. And if there are players that come in and challenge them or take their place, then that’s great,’ said the United manager.

‘I have felt that myself at Manchester United and that is the way it has to be here.

‘We sign players to challenge the ones we have here already – and if you don’t step up, players will take your place.

‘That fear of losing your position has to be there. I always felt that when the gaffer signed new strikers I had to step up, get better and make sure he didn’t want to sell me.’
