Chelsea have spoken to Romelu Lukaku’s agent about the Belgian making a shock return to Stamford Bridge, according to reports. The Inter Milan striker’s future appears uncertain after Antonio Conte’s dramatic resignation from the Italian giants.
Lukaku and Conte helped Inter win the club’s first Serie A title since 2010 this season, romping to the top of the league with a 12-point margin between them and rivals AC Milan. They halted Juventus’ nine-year domination of the division in the process.
The 28-year-old scored 24 league goals and provided a further 11 assists. He came second to Juve’s Cristiano Ronaldo in Serie A’s top scorer’s chart.
But Conte resigned on Wednesday after concluding that his ambitions did not match the club’s vision for the future.
Inter’s financial problems could prompt a mass exodus this summer, with Lukaku one of those to potentially depart.

It is believed that the Nerazzurri want at least £103million (€120m) for the Belgium international, who has scored 64 goals in 95 appearances since joining from Manchester United in 2019.
And Lukaku could be next to leave Inter, with Het Laatste Nieuws reporting that Chelsea have already held talks with his agent over a shock return this summer.
The Blues signed an 18-year-old Lukaku from Anderlecht 10 years ago, but he only made 15 appearances and failed to score.
He instead made his name during loan spells at West Brom and Everton, before signing for the latter permanently for £28m in 2014.

Lukaku then joined Man Utd for an initial £75m but struggled for game time after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in 2019.
Inter paid a club-record £68m to take him from United in 2019, while also signing team-mate Alexis Sanchez on loan.
Lukaku meanwhile posted a heartfelt message to Conte on social media following his departure.
“[In] 2014 we spoke for the first time and we have had a bond ever since,” Lukaku wrote on Instagram.
“We had many moments to work together but only god knows why it never happened earlier.
“You came at the right time and basically changed me as a player and made me even stronger mentally and more importantly we won together!
“Winning is and it’s all that matters to you and I’m glad that I have had you as a coach.
“I will keep your principles for the rest of my career (physical preparation, mental and just the drive to win…) it was a pleasure to play for you!
“Thank you for all what you did. I owe you a lot.. @antonioconte.”
