Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool are one signing away from being the favourites to win the Premier League title.
Jurgen Klopp's men ended a 30-year wait for the top prize in English football last season, romping to their first league since 1990.
The Reds have got their defence off to an impressive start, sitting just a point for the summit.
But a staggering injury crisis is threatening to derail their hopes of regaining the title, with a whole host of players ruled out.
Virgil van Dijk was already facing an extended spell on the sidelines, after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
However, during the international break, Van Dijk’s centre-back partner Joe Gomez, has picked up an issue with his knee tendons.
The 23-year-old has undergone surgery and is expected to miss a significant portion of the season.
And Liverpool legend Carragher has claimed that Klopp will need to dip into the transfer market, if they are to keep their advantage over Manchester City.
“I think if Liverpool buy a centre back, and a good one, in January, I think they'll take some stopping, I really do,” he told Gary Newbon’s Punching.TV.
“Defensively, they have injury problems in that position (centre back), and if they rectify that in January, I think Liverpool would be my favourites.

“But right now I think it's 50/50 between them and Man City because of Liverpool's injuries and the setback of Virgil Van Dijk.”
Liverpool ended the 2019/20 on 99 points, 18 points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side, who themselves, finished 15 ahead of third place.
And despite Carragher suggesting those two will be the pair fighting for the title again – he doesn’t expect such a chasm between them, and the rest of the Premier League.
“I just don't think there'll be as big a gap between them (Liverpool and City) and the rest as we've seen in the last couple of years,” he added.
