Cash-strapped Barcelona ‘looking to sell out-of-favour Samuel Umtiti, Riqui Puig, Junior Firpo and Carles Alena in January’ in order to give Ronald Koeman funds to bolster side
- Barcelona must sell or offload players on loan before they can buy in January
- Four players are identified as surplus to requirements under Ronald Koeman
- Riqui Puig and Samuel Umtiti have been linked with Arsenal and Everton moves
- Koeman is plotting moves for Eric Garcia, Gini Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay
Barcelona are hoping to use the January window to offload four fringe members of their first team as they look to boost their chances of landing transfer targets.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Barca are struggling financially and will only be in a position to sign players once they can sell or even loan out players who have fallen out of favour under Ronald Koeman.
The Dutch manager has drawn up a target of potential incomings including Eric Garcia from Manchester City, Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum and Lyon’s Memphis Depay.
Barcelona are hoping to offload Samuel Umtiti who is on £75,000-a-week at the Nou Camp

According to AS, the four players most likely to depart include Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo, Carles Alena and Riqui Puig.
There is plenty of interest in Spain for Puig but Arsenal are also weighing up the prospect of a move for the 21-year-old who was once considered one of the Spanish club’s most promising youngsters to come through their youth system.
But he has reportedly been accused by Koeman of leaking information outside of the dressing room and a move now looks likely for the playmaker who has played just three minutes in LaLiga this term and 77 minutes across four games overall..
Junior Firpo has struggled for game time since joining in the summer of 2019 for £18million
Ronald Koeman is still looking to shape Barcelona into his style after his summer arrival
While Samuel Umtiti is a useful member of the Barca squad, he is not indispensable and with wages of around £75,000 per week the club are ready to listen to offers of around £11million to get the defender off their books, with Everton having shown an interest earlier in December.
In the summer of 2018, with his release clause hovering at around £50m, he was linked with a move to Manchester United before signing new terms with Barca, and his release clause rising to £500m. That deal runs until 2023.
Youth team graduate Carles Alena’s five appearances also makes him a prime candidate to be moved on, with the 22-midfielder likely to leave on loan on permanently to another Spanish side.
Left-back Junior Firpo meanwhile only joined Barca from Real Betis for £18million in the summer of 2019 but is already out of favour and reports have linked him with moves to Italy.
